WeArtDoing x Yoshioka Medusa Girl - A Modern Glimpse of Mythic Stillness
Share
From Illustration to Art Piece
Yoshioka (よしおか), a Japan-based illustrator, is recognized for muted interpretations of dark fairy tales—scenes that appear calm while harboring tension just beneath the surface. In collaboration with WeArtDoing, Medusa Girl moves beyond the page to become a fully realized three-dimensional work.
The sculpt captures a single, suspended moment: a girl standing in a composed, almost distant stance. Rather than presenting Medusa as a creature of ancient myth, Yoshioka reimagines her in a contemporary setting, dressed simply in an ordinary moment that makes the subject feel immediate yet uneasy.
A Modern Medusa
While her facial expression remains unreadable, the girl’s posture reveals a deeper narrative. Her hands tighten around her clothing and her shoulders draw inward, signaling a hidden emotional weight. The serpents coiling around her head extend this feeling further; each snake reacts with its own level of alertness, acting as a physical manifestation of her internal state.
This quiet sense of movement contrasts sharply with her physical stillness. At her feet, a fallen ice cream cone serves as a deliberate detail that shifts the tone of the entire scene. This small disruption implies an interrupted timeline or an unseen encounter, leaving the story open to interpretation.
The Language of Stillness
WeArtDoing translates this complex composition into resin with an emphasis on balance. The sculpt preserves the fluid motion of the snakes and the subtle tension of the original artwork while adding physical depth and presence.
Medusa Girl is available in two distinct colorways: Green Viper and Crimson Viper. Each version offers a different atmosphere while utilizing the same intricate sculpt.
