Taipei’s Hidden Nakano Broadway: Daiyuanhuan Complex Building

Where Taipei Hides Its Retro Collectibles
During my summer trip to Taiwan, I decided to visit "Daiyuanhuan Complex Building" (大圓環綜合大樓) in Taipei’s Datong District after watching YouTuber RJ’s video about it. His walkthrough caught my attention—the place looked too interesting to skip—so I made it one of my stops.
From the outside, the building looks ordinary, but once I stepped inside, it felt like walking straight into another era. The first floor was lined with small shops—some filled with vintage figures, others stacked with stamps, coins, and collectibles that have clearly been there for decades. Each store felt like its own little time capsule.

The atmosphere reminded me of Nakano Broadway in Tokyo and MANDARAKE, where you can spend hours browsing through aisles of old toys and rare finds. Daiyuanhuan isn’t as well-known, and not every unit is in use, but that quietness adds to its character.
You can tell the shop owners here really care about what they do. Their collections are detailed and personal, and if you take your time, you’ll spot pieces that tell their own stories.

As I was about to leave, I couldn’t help thinking that with a bit more attention, this place could truly become Taipei’s version of Nakano Broadway—a spot for collectors, toy fans, and anyone who enjoys digging through forgotten corners of the city. Then, right by the exit, I noticed a vintage Kaiyodo Rei Ayanami figure displayed among rows of classic robots and kaiju. Me being a Rei lover, there was no way I could pass it up. It was the perfect souvenir to end the visit
